Marcia Cox Fine Art

Marcia adheres to representational art - leaning toward the impressionistic and enjoying the challenge of plein air, still life, portrait and life drawing.

Marcia's earliest memory was sitting with her dad as he drew cartoons...wondering how the face came out of the point of the pencil. The toddler was hooked on drawing from that moment. When her father became interested in photo fromat, composition, film development and printing, tagging along on camera trips with old camera club codgers became commonplace. With their photography shows and Wyoming State Fair competitions - it was a short trip to the barn housing the fine art division. Here, Marcia discovered the world of art and the dye was cast, the pattern set!

After encouraging a child's accomlishments, her family had provided reams of paper and supplies - unknowingly creating an artist. Unfortunately, in the 1940s, women were usually trained simply to be housewives with a few secretarial skills "just in case." Art was not an accepted way to secure a future. What had they done? What fork in the road had they unwittingly offered?

With no road to the Louvre, Soho, Carmel or Taos painters, classical training was sparse. Galleries and museums were miles away. To gain training and skills for successful painting took years, some information was incorrect, and then years to learn correctly. It was all worth it.
